CfP open for ACM SIGOPS Special Issue on Computer Forensics

ACM SIGOPS is soliciting the submission of papers for its Operating Systems Review. This special issue will be dedicated to computer forensics, especially with the upcoming arts of live forensics and the analysis of volatile data.

The call for paper closes on December 1st, 2007.

FIRST Conference 2008

The FIRST Conference 2008 will be held in Vancouver, Canada, from June 22-27, 2008. The Call for Papers is open until November 15, 2007.

Digital Forensic Forum Prague 2007

There's a new conference on the subject of digital forensics forming in Europe. The Digital Forensic Forum (DFF) will be held in Prague, Czech Republic, on November 26 and 27, 2007. The Call for Papers is still open until August 31, 2007.

New Release of Libewf

The program library libewf supports the SMART and EnCase data formats which are widely used in disk imaging. The library compiles under Linux, *BSD, OS-X and Microsoft Windows. The latest version was released on May 12, 2007 by its authors Robert-Jan Mora and Joachim Metz. More information is available from the release notes.

Visualization of Web Server Logs

A lot of similar tools exist that visualize the log file of a web server in a set of bar and pie charts. However in this interesting two-part article Raju Varghese describes how to visualize web server logs in 3-dimensional, multicolored graphs using GnuPlot and Perl. WDFIA 2007

The 2nd Annual Workshop on Digital Forensics & Incident Analysis will take place from 27-28 August 2007, at Samos, Greece. The CfP will close on 30th of April. The workshop proceedings will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press. Additional information is available at the conference website.

Upcoming Windows Incident Response and Memory Analysis Tutorial

Pär Osterberg of the Swedish IT-Incident Centrum SITIC and yours truly will give a full-day tutorial on Windows incident response and memory analysis at the FIRST Conference 2007. The conference will be held from June 17 to 22 at Seville, Spain. Registration is now open.

DFRWS 2007

The Digital Forensic Research Workshop 2007 (DFRWS 2007) will be held in Pittsburgh, PA, US from August 13 to 15, 2007. The workshop will be hosted by CERT/CC. The Call for Papers is now open and closes on April 9, 2007.

IJDE is still alive!

I'm glad to see that the International Journal of Digital Evidence (IJDE) is still alive. The latest issue contains four articles, covering Windows memory forensics, mobile phone forensics, Google desktop search and protected areas of IDE hard drives.

The Sleuth Kit for Windows

The long awaited Windows version of Brian Carrier's famous file system analysis tool The Sleuth Kit has been released on September 1, 2006.
