New Issue of SSDDFJ

A new issue of the Smal Scale Digital Device Forensics Journal has been released. Volume 2, number 1 contains four articles about technical and legal aspects of forensics on small devices like cell phones and video game consoles.

Mobile Device Analysis by Shafik G. Punja and Richard P. Mislan introduces the forensic examiner to mobile phones, their components, and network types. The article also describes handling procedures. There are special sections for Research in Motion's Blackberry, various types of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) and the Apple iPhone.

James Luck and Mark Stoke describe An Integrated Approach to Recovering Deleted
Files from NAND Flash Data
. The article covers the recovery of the FAT file system from a flash memory image and the undeletion of former files. The authors describe a technique to reconstruct video files by using MPEG-4 meta data.

In Forensic Investigation of the Nintendo Wii: A First Glance, Dr Benjamin Turnbull provides an outline of the gaming console and what data of interest to forensic examiners can be extracted from it.

The the fourth article Rebecca Hendricks deals with the Admissibility of Small Scale Digital Devices in U.S. Civil Litigation.
